The Queen Sirikit Navy Hospital is a 1,000 bed hospital located in the Chonburi province.
Recently, the hospital management decided to install a dedicated blood sample tube transport system with the twofold objective of improving the total turnaround time, eliminating the possible risk of pre-analytical errors which may potentially occur due to incorrect sample handling.
The central laboratory is equipped with an automation system, which fully benefits from the Tempus600® one-touch solution, optimising the flow of samples and streamlining the production of blood samples. Realising the advantages of Tempus600®, the hospital decided to re-shape their internal transportation system for the entire blood sampling process.
In early 2019, five Tempus600® systems were deployed to connect the wards to the central laboratory.
Soon after, the installation of Tempus600® began with the commissioning of one Tempus600® system at the Intensive Care Unit and two Tempus600® systems in A&E and the Outpatient department blood collection room respectively.
The Outpatient department treats an average of 100 to 200 patients a day processing up to 300 to 500 tubes a day.
All the blood samples launched from individual Tempus600® units are now issued directly into a bulk loader system, fully integrated with the laboratory automation system, thereby maximising efficiency and reducing sample handling error risks to zero as the procedure is totally hands free.
To complete the agreed panel, another two Tempus600® systems are due to be installed in September 2019 at two different hospital buildings.
These additional units will be shared among patient wards located in each building, thus providing the hospital with full coverage of blood tube transport across the institution. The new set up has been welcomed by the hospital management as it places the Queen Sirikit Hospital among the leading institutions which deliver state-of-the-art care to their patients.
